About Dr. Duane Stillions

Dr. Duane Stillions is an Anesthesiologist with over a decade of experience. He began practicing medicine in 1994 after graduating from The University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City. After completing his internship at the school in 1995, Dr. Duane Stillions entered The Johns Hopkins Hospital where he completed his anesthesia residency in 1998. A fellowship in pediatric anesthesia with subspecialty training in cardiac anesthesia at the prestigious Seattle Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center followed, which Dr. Duane Stillions completed in 1999. Dr. Duane Stillions accepted a position as a Staff Anesthesiologist at the renowned Children’s Mercy Hospital of Kansas City, Missouri, a position he held until 2003. During this time, Dr. Duane Stillions personally administered several thousand pediatric anesthetics annually, providing cardiac anesthesia in 30 percent of his cases. During this time, he also served as Chairperson of the hospital’s Recruitment Committee from 2000 to 2002, and was the Operating Room Board Manager responsible for making operating room assignments and maintaining the daily schedule for the hospital’s operating rooms. In 2003, Duane Stillions was recruited by Inova Fairfax Hospital for Women and Children located in Falls Church, Virginia to serve in a similar position. While at Fairfax Hospital for Women and Children, Dr. Duane Stillions worked in the tertiary care center providing all clinical services, including pediatric care in 50 percent of the clinical time spent with patients. In 2004, he was recruited by Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. where he served as a Staff Anesthesiologist until 2009. In this position, Dr. Duane Stillions provided cardiac anesthesia in 80 percent of his clinical time serving patients. He also served as the Chairperson of the Medical Center’s Recruitment Committee from 2005 to 2008, and the Chairperson for the Family Centered Care Committee during the same period. Dr. Duane Stillions was also responsible for the medical education for anesthesia residents and pediatric anesthesia fellows while at Children’s National Medical Center. He also began performing charitable work in Uganda as part of the Children’s National Medical Center’s medical mission trips to provide cardiac care to children and educate Ugandan healthcare teams in new and advanced medical procedures and treatments. Dr. Duane Stillions is currently enrolled in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in the Master’s degree program for health policy and management. He expects to graduate in 2011.
